You’ve Got Questions – We’ve Got Answers

Q: Is there an age restriction for your shows?

A: Yes. We are a 21+ venue and you WILL be asked to show a proper, government issued ID at the door. Or…you can bring your mom. Seriously. We will admit minors with parental supervision only. We had a tough time getting our licenses and we’d really like to keep them! Thanks for your cooperation.

Q: What kind of entertainment do you offer? What can I expect?

A: That’s two questions! The Uptown Underground specializes in “Top Shelf Retrotainment” – retro themed adult entertainment. That includes Cabaret, Burlesque, Comedy, Magic, Vaudeville, Variety, Swing Dance, Jazz & Blues, etc. If it was a popular form of entertainment between 1920-1960, chances are it will be on one of our stages. Check the event calendar to see what shows are playing and when. Expect to have a great time regardless of what you choose to see. We challenge you to choose something new to you that you’ve never seen before. You never know what might turn your fancy!

Q: What do tickets cost?

A: Depending on the night of the week, the door cover can range anywhere between $5-$50. Discounts apply for purchasing in groups and making reservations early. Buying at the door will always be the most expensive option.

Q: What’s the deal with VIP, Premium and Standard tickets?

A: There are a number of seating options available for most events at the Uptown Underground. Our semi-private VIP Booth is available for parties of up to 6 people and includes a bottle service option. Premium event tickets are located closest to the stage and receive the most interaction with the show hosts and performers. Standard tickets make up the remainder of the seating, but because our venue is so intimate, you can be assured that no matter where you sit, you will have a great, close-up experience.

Q: Do I have to make a reservation?

A: You don’t have to, but we suggest it. Seating is limited and General Admission events are first come, first served. Events can sell out in advance. You can purchase your tickets in advance by visiting our event calendar and clicking on the event that you would like to attend. We are a paperless venue! Once you purchase your tickets, you do not need to print anything to gain access to the venue. Just check in with the host upon arrival with the name on your reservation and your ID.

Q: What happens if I can’t attend an event that I purchased tickets for?

A: All sales are final. Event tickets are non-refundable. We do not offer exchanges. We do not offer “account credits.” However, you can transfer your reservation to someone else by filling out our Reservation Change Request form to change the name on the reservation.

Q: What are your box office hours?

A: We do not have a traditional box office. All event purchases are done online through our event calendar. If you have questions that aren’t covered here, however, please do not hesitate to contact us at 773.867.1946. When you arrive at the venue, you will be greeted by a host who can also sell you tickets to the show if you have not reserved in advance.

Q: Do you have a dress code?

A: We prefer that you treat coming to our establishment as a special occasion – because it will be! Business Casual to Fancy Dress is highly encouraged, but we do not discriminate against any style of dress as long as it is not offensive to our other guests.

Q: Do you have a drink minimum?

A: Nope. But we have a great beverage menu, and most of our shows are even better with a little social lubricant, so we encourage you to flag down your server often!

Q: Do you serve food?

A: We do not serve food, but we do have light snacks (pretzels, popcorn, peanuts). We also have a restaurant recommendation list about a mile long for fantastic places to eat in the neighborhood, which you should definitely do in advance.

Q: Can I visit with my friends during the show?

A: The Uptown Underground encourages a fun night out, especially if you bring friends. Many shows actually REQUIRE your interaction and expect that you will hoot, holler and ballyhoo with the best of them. However, we do request that you respect the performers and your fellow patrons and keep non-show-related banter and conversations to a minimum. Management reserves the right to ask guests to step outside if they are being overly disruptive or unnecessarily rowdy.

Q: How do I get there?

A: We are located at 4707 N Broadway, just one block south of the Lawrence Ave. & Broadway Ave. intersection in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. (Our door is 4713 at the head of the cow!)

Public Transit: We highly recommend taking public transit because it is so close and so convenient. The Uptown Underground is located one block south of the Lawrence Red Line stop or two blocks north of the Wilson Red Line stop. The Lawrence & Broadway intersection is also a stop for both the #36 Broadway and #81 Lawrence buses.

Driving: From Lakeshore Drive take the Wilson Ave. exit from the South or the Lawrence Ave. exit from the North and drive West one half mile. The venue is located between Lawrence & Wilson at the corner of Broadway & Leland.

Q: Is there parking?

A: Admittedly street parking in the neighborhood is difficult due to permitting and darned near impossible on concert nights at the neighboring Aragon and Riviera Theaters. There is a paid lot beside the venue for $20 per vehicle on concert nights, but that lot is patrolled by towing services, starting at 1am and is often full with cars from the concerts. Park there at your own risk. There is also limited street parking on the main thoroughfares for $2.00/hr for a max of 3 hours. We are working on securing valet service, however, there is currently a neighborhood shortage of locations for valet services to park vehicles. In the interim, we are working with PARQEX who has 2 paid lots at 940 W. Wilson and 1050 W. Wilson (about 0.25 miles from the venue). You can download their app and reserve your space any time in advance of the show. Prices are $3/hr or $8/day. (Use the promo code UNDERGROUND for a $15 parking credit when you sign up for the app). But really, do yourself a favor and take public transit or a cab! That way you can have a couple more at the bar and not have to worry about your car or a designated driver!

Q: Can I get a tour of the tunnels?

A: No.
